2025 Faculty Elections Slate: w/ brief descriptions, candidates, and eligible voter groups for each race

BCAHE President

•  Lindsay Haney
  • Lindsay Haney has been active in BCAHE since soon after his arrival here as an adjunct in the English department in 2014: he started on the EC in 2016, served as vice president for three years, and has been president of the association for the past 2911 hours as of this writing. He would be grateful for your support in a second year as president, and he offers a gentle reminder that he can’t imagine serving for more than three years, so some other folks ought to start thinking ahead. He’s also going to switch to first person for the rest of this bio.
    I’m surprised by some aspects of this year so far (I did not anticipate that the college would make communications policy such a big problem this year), while others are in line with the issues I expected we’d face (continued change in college administration and our challenges in defining our approach to the post-pandemic environment). I’ve got no shortage of things to be frustrated about, particularly the college’s continued challenges to get to a state of reliable function in critical offices, including getting people paid correctly and keeping spaces at reasonable temperatures. I’m also delighted and grateful, however, to see faculty doing the hard work of advocating for one another and maintaining their boundaries. I already see folks doing a better job recognizing the distinction between the college’s responsibilities and our job duties. I think we all want to be able to do good work at an institution we’re proud of, but we also need to be able to go home and not let this place consume us.
    In this context, I think it’s critically important to continue to elevate faculty voice in the college and to advocate for faculty, particularly adjuncts, who are looking for some security and protection in these uneasy times. Should you elect me to do so, I’m looking forward to applying myself to this challenging but rewarding task for another year.
    The CBA we just negotiated will expire at the end of this term, so if you elect me, I will spend a good amount of next year collaborating and strategizing with you, trying to figure out what we can accomplish at the table in the environment in which we find ourselves. With your continued strength and the support of a strong EC and officer team, I’m looking forward to it.
    I would also be grateful if the membership, in their wisdom, decided to send me to Spokane for WEA-RA in April so that I might engage with our statewide colleagues to consider our larger union’s agenda for the coming year.

BCAHE Vice President

• Elena Maans-Lorincz
  • Elena Maans-Lorincz is running for Vice President of BCAHE, and would appreciate your vote.  Elena joined the Executive Council in 2023, and is glad to have found a way to help make a difference for faculty at BC.  Since starting at BC in 2016, she has witnessed many changes, both good and bad, but the constant for her has been a feeling of support and community from BCAHE. More than once, she has messaged Sue Nightingale, asking for advice and help, like many of you over the years.  But a union is more than one person with the answers and reassurance, it’s a community coming together. Her goal as Vice President would be to work with the President, Executive Council, and general membership to continue the work being done, and to do more.  Every community has room for growth, and the growth Elena has tried to foster and help to continue is our growth in knowledge of our rights and contract and our strength as a unit.
    Elena has had many roles at Bellevue College over the past eight years.  From a club advisor to Chair of PD Committee (now called Faculty for Faculty), to a department Chair. Often, she is also just a parent trying to wrap up so she can get home in time to have her child run out of their classroom ready for a hug. The only two roles she has not had at Bellevue College is being an administrator and an adjunct, she was however an adjunct before arriving at Bellevue College. She has never been an administrator and no offense, she doesn’t plan to be. This position as Vice President is the most responsibility she plans to do for a long time. So, what does a vote for Elena get you? It gets you a year of a connector who strives to create community and build strength through knowledge.

BCAHE Adjunct Affairs Officer

•  Taylor Dalrymple
  • With your support, I would be honored to serve as your Adjunct Affairs Officer (AAO) for another term. Although I have just one and half quarters in this position under my belt, I have received invaluable support and training from the current union leadership team as I navigate the multitude of challenges facing our membership at Bellevue College. In my role as AAO, I serve on the Labor Management Committee where we continue to urge BC’s administration to improve the speed and accuracy of quarterly contract distribution and stipend payments, as well as holding them to account when the contractual rights of adjuncts are not being followed.
    In my 10 years at Bellevue College, I have served a variety of roles across the Arts & Humanities, Social Science, and Connected Learning divisions. For more than three years, I have also co-chaired the Positive Policies for Adjuncts (PPA) committee, a group of adjunct and full-time faculty that are passionate about elevating the voice of adjuncts and our needs across campus. Lastly, I am a member of a state-wide group of AFT and WEA union members that advocates for pay equity and job security for contingent faculty (adjuncts) to our state legislators and the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.
    My intention is to help build a stronger, even more united faculty at our college that will feel empowered to self-advocate for our labor rights and our role in deciding the future of our institution.

  • I served on the Executive Council for the 2023-24 year and am the current secretary for 2024-25. Since this is the first year that secretary and treasurer have been separate positions, I’ve worked closely with Chace to take on the secretary duties as seamlessly as possible. I would be honored to serve as your BCAHE secretary for another year.
    I would also like to be considered as one of your WEA Representatives this year. I have focused my PD around union strength, lobbying, and bargaining, and would like the opportunity to represent us at the WEA Representative Assembly.

• Cara Diaconoff
  • I have been an adjunct in the English department since 2017. I am a current member of the BCAHE executive council and previously served on it from 2018 to 2021. As a union and executive council member, I have participated in lobbying days in Olympia and regularly attended meetings of the statewide WEA/AFT Adjunct Issues group. I have also continued to work with the BCAHE-EC’s communications committee, helping to edit Hoo’s News and writing the regular “New Member Spotlight” feature. In adjunct advocacy, I am especially interested in making sure that adjunct faculty have an equitable chance to contribute their talents to the community through co-curricular and extracurricular activities as well as through teaching. BC is unique in offering many professional development opportunities to adjuncts as well as opportunities for service, and I aim to help make sure that adjuncts are compensated fairly and promptly for these.

  • I have been an adjunct at BC for over 15 years.  I have taught in 3 different departments (English, ESL/ABE, and English Language Institute). At times, I had classes in all three departments in order to piece together a full-time schedule!  I know what it is like to be an adjunct and have classes cancelled.  I understand the anxiety of waiting to find out what classes you are given for the next quarter to decide if you needed to look for other work to supplement your income.  I know the scary experience of going below 50% and having to live without the safety net of health insurance.  If elected, I will work to help adjuncts have better wages and more security so that we can focus on what is really important – being the best teachers we can be for our students!
• Mandie Mauldin
  • Mandie Mauldin, M.Ed has been an educator for the past twenty years at Bellevue College, and an adjunct since 2011. Her exploration of various teaching strategies resulted in great success in her pre-college math classes, and resulted in her working at the Faculty Commons as the Classroom Strategies when the Commons opened, the Interim Director in 2015 – 2017, and again was a co-chair at the Commons this past Fall Quarter. I have enjoyed my many years working with faculty in various ways. I am excited about the possibility of supporting Bellevue College Adjunct Faculty in a new capacity as an Adjunct Member of the BCAHE Executive Council.

• Danielle Jacobson
  • I would love to continue serving on the TRC for a second term because the work has been incredibly rewarding and valuable, offering me the opportunity to make a positive impact. In fact, I think it is one of the more meaningful roles that faculty can take on campus. While the TRC provides guidance and mentorship to candidates, I feel we also learn much from colleagues (tenure-track faculty, TES, and fellow TRC members), and would be thankful to continue in that learning process. Additionally, it has been a true pleasure collaborating with TRC colleagues over the past few years, and I would enjoy contributing further.
• Alexa Serrato
  • I, Alexa Serrato (Science Division, Math), would like to nominate myself to serve as a member of the Tenure Review Committee. I earned tenure in 2020 and since then I have served on two different TES’s. On one committee, I was the member in charge of overseeing the peer evaluations and later I became the chair of that TES. On my current TES, I have been the chair. Joining the TRC is something that I really want to do, I actually wrote about this aspiration in my own 3rd-year tenure document.
    The tenure process is something that I care a lot about at BC because I felt well-supported during my own tenure process. I would like the opportunity to read through the tenure documents from TES’s across campus to better understand how others are supporting their tenure candidates and then use what I learn on future TES’s that I serve on. If elected, I look forward to collaborating with the other members of the TRC to fairly evaluate our tenure candidates and maintain the integrity of the tenure process.

  • Lisa Lapointe is a senior associate librarian who has been with Bellevue College for 11 years. She has experience as a member of a TES as well as the TRC, where she held a one-year interim term during the 23/24 academic year.
• Jen Anderson
  • Hi! My name is Jen Anderson, and I am a Full Professor in the Communication Studies Department. I’m excited to run for a position on the Tenure Review Committee (TRC). Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on more than 10 Tenure Evaluation Subcommittees (TES). Having experienced the tenure process both as a candidate and as a mentor guiding others through it, I bring a well-rounded perspective to this process. I would be honored to contribute to the college by applying this experience to the work of the TRC.
• Shana Chung
  • I have worked at Bellevue College for 11 years and have had the good fortune to have taught in two divisions. I first taught in Social Science as an adjunct in the Business Transfer program (where I learned the value of service to the college) and then as a full-time faculty member in HSEWI’s Healthcare Management & Leadership program. I currently serve as HSEWI Assistant Dean and HCML Program Chair. My other contributions include service on successful Tenure Evaluation Subcommittees in three different divisions (Connected Learning, Social Science, and HSEWI and mentoring numerous adjunct and full-time faculty. I have also served as the chair, DEI advocate, or regular member of many screening committees for senior administrative, faculty, and staff positions. I am currently on my second stint as the Program Chair representative to the Resources Planning Council.

  • Hi, all- my name is Gwynne Crowder, and I have taught physics at BC since 2016.
    I am interested in continuing to be chair of the Student Academic Grievance Committee.  If reelected, I would continue to focus on creating fair and impartial consideration of academic grievances, follow the mandated timelines and processes, and do so in a manner respectful of both students and faculty.

  • Evan Drake is a tenured professor in the Information Technology and Cybersecurity programs located in the School of Business & Technology Division.  He also is the elected program chair of the BAS Cybersecurity program. The types of classes he teaches throughout the year include (but not limited to) information security , digital forensics, Linux, and a variety of cloud computing courses.  Evan has previously served as a reoccurring member of the Student Grievance committee under two separate chairs. He hopes to use his experience and insights to operate this committee efficiently and effectively while applying due process.
